Looking For an Editor?

Being a writer can be a daunting and often lonely endeavor. As a detail-oriented editor with years of writing experience, I understand the importance of support and community within this field. I would love the opportunity to partner with you to help bring your words and stories to life!

What Do I Offer?

I offer manuscript evaluations, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Feel free to reach out using the form below, and I’ll be happy to help you determine which type of editing best suits your current needs. I work in a variety of genres and specialize in young adult fantasy.

In a manuscript or short story evaluation, I will make comments throughout your piece, focusing on plot, character development, pacing, point-of-view, and flow. I’ll offer suggestions and critiques to help make your writing more effective overall. Then I’ll add a few notes at the end to give you a good starting place for self edits. With a full developmental edit, I will go into further detail on all these aspects, offering even more solutions to help you move forward. A one-hour follow up call is included, as well as a detailed editorial letter, which will touch on strengths and weaknesses and offer guidance on where to begin revisions and what needs the most attention. The letter will also dive deeply into suggestions for reworking specific areas of the manuscript.

Line editing will target the phrasing, wording, flow, and structuring of sentences, helping to make your prose stand out.

Copyediting will focus on the small but important details of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and fact-checking, refining the manuscript for ease of reading and professionalism.

As a longtime writer and reader of fiction, the art of story is indelibly important to me. My passion is to see more life-changing stories find their way to the hearts of readers. If you are a writer, your words matter. No one else can tell a story quite like you can. With a sincere understanding of how much sweat, time, and tears go into the completion of a manuscript, I want to make it possible for your words to reach the readership they are meant for.

Testimonials

“Denica provided a full developmental edit on my 100k-word fantasy novel. Not only was she incredibly detailed in her feedback, but she truly grasped the fullness of what I’m trying to accomplish with the story and had many wonderful insights that are helping me reach those goals. Where I had gotten stuck in the mud of overthinking, she brought clarity and confidence. I’m not sure I could have pressed through this stage and kept my head on straight without her wisdom and calming reassurance. 10/10 WILL work with Denica again!” -Genevieve St. Martin, Fantasy Author

“Working with Denica was so easy and enjoyable. She gives great advice and equips you with what you need to make your story fuller, alive, and clear to read. I am so thankful for the time she invested in my children’s story and the guidance she has given me.” -Brooke Katz, Fiction Author

“Denica was a delight to work with. Quick and detail-oriented, she gave good direction on both the overall arc and stakes of my short story as well as highlighting the smaller things that needed to be fleshed out or clarified to create an excellent, well-paced story. I highly recommend her, especially for her developmental edits!” -Abigail O’Bryan, Fiction Author

“I can’t thank Denica enough for editing my poetry. My manuscript, which began as a long, random mess, now has structure, flow, proper grammar and punctuation, and I dare say that others might be interested in reading it someday. She was thoughtful and encouraging throughout every step of the process and welcomed my questions and feedback along the way. Highly recommended.” -Doug Gates, Poet
